Rocky Ridge “Ultra” Half Marathon

Hikers kick off the first wave of the 2019 Rocky Ridge Half Marathon

Brazen Racing Series

On Sept 28th, 2019, the Rocky Ridge Half Marathon capped off a long series of half marathon trail runs organized by Brazen Racing that take place mostly throughout the rolling hills of the San Francisco East Bay.

The race takes place in Las Trampas East Bay Regional Park, making a craggy figure 8 path around the two major sections of the park: Over the Las Trampas Ridge skirting Alamo and the Rocky Ridge abutting the San Leandro Hills.

Total distance: 13.41 mi
Total climbing: 4938 ft

My phone’s GPS recording seems to be a bit off (or I went way off track). Officially, the race is 13.7-ish miles and 3900-ish feet of elevation gain.

The Race

In addition to the half marathon, the race also has waves for half marathon hikers, 5K, and 10K runners. Hikers started at 7am to give them a little extra time, Half marathoners at 8, 10K at 8:15, and 5K at 8:30.

For all the huffing and puffing up the hills, racers at least get the momentary distractions of Mt. Diablo and the San Ramon valley.
