Waterbird Regional Preserve
An Overlooked Wetland
Nestled next to the Benicia-Martinez Bridge toll plaza is the little known Waterbird Regional Preserve. Easily visible from 680N bridge approach, this small preserve contrasts with the surrounding storage tanks and the refineries across the Carquinez strait. Nevertheless, various birds still find comfort here in this small wetland.
After exiting onto Waterfront Rd, the main entrance is less than a half mile away from 680. The next time you head up north to Napa or perhaps Rush Ranch, stop here and check who’s in the neighborhood.
The fall or spring bird migrations are also a good time to visit. For more info, see the East Bay Regional Parks website.
